DPO Teaching Award

Difference, Power, and Oppression Teaching Award

In order to recognize excellence in Difference, Power, and Oppression (DPO) teaching, we invite nominations for the newly established DPO Teaching Award. Awardees will receive up to $1000 as part of their recognition. Awardees will be asked to attend the 2024 State of Diversity at Oregon State University event on Tuesday, May 28. Nominations are due by Friday, April 19.

Submit a Nomination

Eligibility

  • Nominee must have taught at least one DPD/DPO course within the last two years (Consistency in teaching DPD/DPO courses is not required, but will be used as one measure of evaluation)

  • Instructors and faculty of record are eligibal (graduate students are ineligible)

  • Self-nominations are welcome

Nominations

All nominations must include the following:

  1. A brief narrative (no more than 1-page, single spaced) describing how the nominee embodies one or more of the four principles of DPO Teaching (see below)
  2. Document(s) describing an assignment or teaching activity used in teaching DPO
  3. Statement(s) of support (can include brief statements from students, TAs, co-teachers, and/or faculty observations)
  4. At least one exemplar DPO course syllabus (multiple syllabi can be submitted, as appropriate)
  5. Optional: additional support materials or statements

  • Knowing Ourselves: Reflecting on and addressing our positionality as instructors in the classroom
  • Knowing Our Students: Considering and addressing students' positionality and properly leveraging their experiences inside and outside the classroom
  • What We Teach: Centering questions of difference, power, and oppression within course content
  • How We Teach: Utilizing inclusive pedagogies and active learning strategies
