The DPO Academies prepare faculty to design DPO courses and/or to teach courses with those designations. The Academies are available in three formats: a synchronous in-person session offered both in-term and during summer, and an asynchronous Ecampus format. The DPO Academy is required for all faculty who are (re)designing a DPO course for submission as part of the new Core Education curriculum, and any member of th teaching team for DPO courses (including instructors of record and recitation instructors). Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) working with DPO courses have a distinct training pathway, more information about GTA training is available here.
Faculty who will be teaching DPO courses in a synchronous in-person class should take the synchronous in-person Academies. Faculty who teach asynchronous Ecampus courses should take the asynchronous Ecampus Academies. If faculty will be teaching DPO courses both in-person and through Ecampus they may choose which modality of academy they wish to complete. Please note the following important information about the DPO Academies:
- The academies must be completed the term prior to teaching a DPO course.
- Across academies participants can expect to engage in an average of six to eight hours of work per week (Ecampus) or session (in-person, accounts for pre-work and session meeting times).
- There is an 8-person minimum enrollment for academies, if there are less than 8 faculty enrolled in an academy then it will be canceled and faculty will be rescheduled to a different term offering.
- Registration for academies will close two weeks prior to the academy start date.
- All participants will receive a stipend upon completion of the Academy.
